Overview

The CAR facility encompasses 35,000 square feet of offices, laboratories, and high bay garage areas.
The high bay area includes:

Students working in the anechoic chamber.

• State-of-the-art engine test cells:
  • Chassis dynamometer enclosed by a hemi-anechoic chamber
  • 200 HP DC dynamometer test cell
  • Double sided 300 HP dynamometer for engine breathing systems research
  • Portable 1,000 HP water brake dynamometer

• State-of-the-art research facilities and equipment:
  • Flow lab
  • Acoustics lab
  • Combustion facilities
  • Exhaust analysis systems (diesel and gasoline)
  • Hardware-in-the-loop control systems
  • Intelligent Transportation garage
  • Wireless networking 802.11b/g implemented by Windtalk

• Future additions to CAR:
  • Double ended electric traction test cell
  • Fuel cell lab with highly sophisticated instrumentation
  • AC/DC electric storage & propulsion lab
  • Low power electric storage & propulsion lab
