Summary:
Dr. Midlam-Mohler is a staff research engineer employed by OSU-CAR to support the many research activities. He oversees many of the engine-related experimental programs at OSU-CAR and works closely with faculty, staff, and students on funded research projects.
Research Interests:
Diesel Engine Emissions Control : Dr. Midlam-Mohler's PhD research was focused on the application of lean NO x traps to Diesel engines. The focus of the work was on modeling and control of bypass regeneration systems as well as alternative methods of providing regeneration gasses. He has also participated in static urea-SCR characterization and is currently working on Diesel particulate filter regeneration.
Gasoline Engine Emissions Control : Dr. Midlam-Mohler is currently working on industrial projects aimed at developing control algorithms for stoichiometric gasoline engines. This work involves a significant experimental component in the OSU-CAR test labs. This work includes collecting experimental data, developing control algorithms, calibrating the control algorithms, and evaluating the results.
Diesel Combustion - Dr. Midlam-Mohler has been heavily involved in the Homogenous Charge Compression Ignition combustion research at OSU-CAR. The focus of the work has been on static characterization of external mixture preparation with manifold injection. Currently, work is underway to explore transient operation and control of HCCI combustion.
Hybrid Electric Vehicles : He is currently a team advisor for the OSU Challenge-X hybrid electric vehicle team. Dr. Midlam-Mohler is a former team captain and team member of the OSU FutureTruck team.
